Submission Guidelines
What we publish
Inkhorn publishes fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry. We look for writing that earns its place on the page — work with a clear voice, careful attention to language, and something at stake for the reader.
Categories
- Fiction — up to 5,000 words
- Creative nonfiction — up to 4,000 words
- Poetry — up to 5 poems per submission
Fees and awards
Submit as many pieces as you like, free of charge. There is no reading fee and no fee to be considered for the Inkhorn Awards.
Reading period
Submissions open August 1 and close January 15. Work received outside the reading period will not be considered.
File format
Upload your manuscript as a .pdf, .docx, or .rtf file. Maximum file size: 5 MB.
General guidelines
- Simultaneous submissions are fine; withdraw promptly if accepted elsewhere.
- Multiple submissions are welcome. Each piece should be submitted separately.
- Previously published work is not accepted, including work published on personal blogs or social media.
- We respond to all submissions within 90 days.
- We acquire first North American serial rights. All other rights revert to the author upon publication.
